Pursue Happiness

One of my favorite bloggers, Scott Dinsmore, likes to say, "happiness not spent today does not equal more happiness tomorrow."  That quote really resonates with me. Why spend another second doing something that you don't enjoy? Yet, many of us do everyday including myself. I'm working on this and I hope you'll join me.

At first it seems hard to separate from the people, work, etc. that instead of lifting you up, weigh you down.  Start small. Write a list of as many things as you can that drain you and don't make you happy.  Then write a list of things that make you happiest in life.  Choose one thing from each list every month or even every week. Rid yourself of the thing that doesn't make you happy and do the thing that does make you happy. It may take some time, courage, and maybe even a little sweat, but in the end you'll be much happier.

You may find that a person or two make your list of things that don't make you happy. Begin distancing yourself from them and spending that extra time with people that bring you joy.  Maybe your career leaves you tired and unmotivated instead of energized and excited about what you do. If so, I highly recommend reading the free ebook, Take This Job and Shove It. You'll find it full of lots of little steps that will have a big impact towards making a living while doing something you're passionate about.  As they say, "Do what you love and you'll never work another day in your life."
